Can just any lake property owner join the PLIA? UPDATED    Link to this story

    Pewaukee lake

Ever since April, Alderperson Kathy Novack, a lake property owner, has been waiting to join the PLIA. She sent an application and a check for the required $25 membership fee to Bob Giblin in April, during the time that the PLIA was submitting applications for chemical treatment.

On June 14th, she sent a follow up e-mail since she had not received any information regarding her membership and the check had not be deposited.

She still has not heard back from the PLIA or it's President, Bob Giblin. Today she sent him an email requesting her membership be activated or a specific reason be given that her membership is being denied. I wonder if Mr. Giblin or the PLIA will ever respond to this request from a lake property who does not believe that dumping 2,4D into the lake is an improvement.

    UPDATE

Here is the letter Kathy sent to Mr. Giblin:

      Mr. Giblin:

Per my records the last time you responded to an e-mail from me was back on April 24, 2006. Immediately after that e-mail I sent in my application and a personal check for $25 to join the PLIA. As a lakefront homeowner, I still can not understand what membership requirement I might not meet. I am again requesting my membership card OR A SPECIFIC REASON AS TO WHY I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR MEMBERSHIP.

Further, I am asking that you provide me with the IRS code section under which the PLIA qualifies for exempt status (such as 501(c)(3) or (c)(4) or (c)(7) etc.) as well as the organizations taxpayer identification number - also referred to as a "TIN." In order to maintain an exempt status under federal statute, this information must be provided to anyone requesting it. It is not protected under any privacy provision such as those applicable to individual taxpayers.

Please responded as soon as feasible - which if the organization is as active as your frequently represent should be no longer than a few day period. My continued wait for a response to e-mails sent to you in mid-June is not reasonable or acceptable for a legitimate exempt entity.
