Attorney says Chief is on Leave because of Merger Talks

According to an article in the MJS today, Chief Bach's attorney believes the Chief was put on administrative leave because of comments he made regarding the idea of merging the City and Village Police Departments.

The attorney for Police Chief Gary Bach said Monday that the chief is under investigation for discussing the possibility of merging the city and village police departments and telling employees job loss would result.

I have said before, and want to reiterate that, I have no information on this issue. It is being handled by the HR Director and I know what is reported in the papers. As the Chief, statutorily, reports to the Mayor, the Council has no jurisdiction on the matter.
