Thursday, August 27 2009 @ 02:58 PM CDT Dale,
I see that you're exploring alternatives to the City police department. I applaud your out-of-the box thinking. I also have read that people are encouraging you to hear out the Village for their proposal. It appears as though the council has decided the police department has cost enough. I am too busy to go down to City hall and run through the budget numbers myself, but I will take your word for it. However, since you are open to exploring options, I would like to present you with another option: I would like to throw my hat in the ring for providing police services to the City of Pewaukee. I have assembled a team of mercenaries made up of former Navy Seals, Army Rangers, and Blackwater Security Forces. I can guarantee that the crime that plagues Pewaukee today (10mph over the speed limit, teenage loitering, illegal firecrackers, making a wake after sunset on the lake, etc) will become a thing of the past. We can not only catch the perpetrator of these heineous crimes, but we can make them pay... Trust me, they'll never violate the ordinances again. We already have our own vehicles, too. These babies are 2007 Chevy Suburbans. All glass has been replaced with multi-layered ballistic glass capable of stopping a 7.62 x 39 bullet dead in its tracks. The doors, roof, and floor have been reinforced with ballistic steel/composite that can withstand IED blasts and stop grenade fragmentation. These vehicles have been put to the test and will always deliver. Safety and protection of the citizens is my #1 priority. The cars are fully loaded with HK416 assault rifles that fire under the toughest conditions. The roof has a 40mm MK-19 automatic grenade launcher turret installed. Hopefully we won't have to use it, but it is good to have - you know, in case of a fight at the high school or something. I assure you that nobody will mess with our community once word gets out that we are now in control of this city. Dale, please consider my offer. We can discuss the details further at an undisclosed location, should you be interested. I can have the team assembled and in place within 36 hours. Duke LaCrosse, Captian, The P Team.

Thursday, August 27 2009 @ 11:00 PM CDT OK enough is enough. For years the elected officials in the City of Pewaukee have bragged about the "0 % tax increase". While other communities like the Village of Pewaukee raised their taxes modest amounts the City earned a spot on a list of "most affordable cities". Wow isnt that great, now they cant pay their bills. I wonder how impressive the "most affordable city" will look when everyone sees through the smoke and mirrors. The economic crunch didnt exactly sneak up on any of us. Why did the city not see this coming and maybe raise taxes slightly. Apparently the city was counting on money they had not received to pay the bills this year. The city was counting on money from fees, building permits etc to make up for the poor planning and lack of insight to the economic indicators. What a shocker folks,,,, fewer building permits are being pulled this year. Wow, where did this come from?
Ofcourse the Sheriff is going to come in and say he can provide the same level of serive for less money. Is this really the case? Sure the numbers may sound good for a while, but so did the 0% tax increase. Ever consider what happens to property values when a communtiy doesnt have its own police force? Why are the police being targeted? As far as I can see they are not the ones who ran the city into the poor house. Sure there haave been some issues to come out of the PD lately but I dont see how this is a resposible fix to the problem(s).

Sunday, August 30 2009 @ 12:44 PM CDT amen I agree, I am glad people have the sense to see through this. The city has been run very poorly and now the Police are supposed to take the fall. It was not the cops who paid Gary Bach $171,000 and all of the legal fees. It was not the cops who have put Sgt. Sneider on suspended leave for almost 1 year now with pay. It was not the cops who wanted a study conducted in the first place and then disregarded the results. It seems this all points to City management not the cops..... I encourage everyone to try to get a hold of the Mayor or your Alderman and voice your concerns.

Wednesday, September 02 2009 @ 12:24 PM CDT Ok lets simplify this. If it now takes 4 cops to effectively patrol and keep the citizens safe on a given 8hr shift, and the sheriff is proposing to do it with 3, is that not a reduction in the level of service/security. I was never a math major, but I think it equals 1 "LESS". Less does indicate a reduction, I think.

Wednesday, September 02 2009 @ 02:15 PM CDT Just to clarify. Sheriff Trawicki indicated his recommended staffing level for the the City of Pewaukee was 3 patrol on 1st shift, 3 patrol on 2nd shift, and 2 patrol on 3rd shift. He also stated there would be a 'power shift' from 6pm to 2am (or 7pm to 3am). Included in hist proposal was a supervisor dedicated to Pewaukee on 1st and 2nd shift, with a non-dedicated supervisor on 3rd. Finally, he included 1 detective dedicated to Pewaukee and, at no additional cost, a second detective based in Pewaukee but not dedicated to City cases. He did not say this was exactly what the CPPD is doing now. He said this was his recommendation. He also said that we can determine the staffing levels that we want and gave use the costs associated with addition or subtraction of personnel. You want 4 patrol instead of 3 on a shift 7 days a week, add about $192,000. That being said, this is just one of the issues that need to be looked at very closely.

Wednesday, September 02 2009 @ 06:54 PM CDT The presentation answered many questions. Current headquarters would remain open as a substation. Police cars would include "City of Pewaukee." City would have access to significant additional personnel with expertise in areas not found within current staff. No loss of current revenue from citations. No loss of municipal court. One question to sheriff indicated city would lose the expertise in areas such as white collar crime and terrorism/defense of WE Energy. Not aware we've had any significant issues in white collar area nor the basis the questioner used in determining the sheriff's department would not have equal if not better expertise. Only time we had a potential "terrorist" issue was the bomb threat incident - saw significant number of outside resources assisting the city during that event and no one insisting we could handle it by ourselves. With potential of 24 openings and only 27 on board officers, it would seem all qualified officers could be accommodated - and if some current officers would not qualify - then I would question how/why they DID qualify here. Sure - some might not be assigned to Pewaukee (6) but many Pewaukee officers live substantial distances from the city. Maybe some/many would prefer assignments closer to their homes. Overall it seems like a very positive opportunity for city taxpayers to get even more services than currently provided and at substantial savings. I urge everyone to keep their minds open as further questions are answered and more information becomes available.

Good luck now with finding and naming a police chief who is not of retirement age. The police commissioner statement in the LCR today that the commission will back the Council in any decision the Council makes regarding contracting just screams job security and commission commitment to the police force.
