Contact your alderman!

Monday, August 31 2009 @ 02:25 PM CDT Since the common council, for some unknown reason, makes the ultimate decision in this process, it's important for all citizens of the City of Pewaukee to let their alderman and the mayor know their feelings. Here is the website for their contact information (from the City of Pewaukee website) - http://www.cityofpewaukee.us/elected_officials.php. I've heard many are not answering their phones. This is unacceptable. Our elected officials answer to us, not the other way around. Ultimately, shouldn't it be the citizens who decide whether or not they want their own police department?

Monday, August 31 2009 @ 09:52 PM CDT With the exception of Alderman Kiser, every one of the Alderpeople & the Mayor have a city of Pewaukee e-mail address to contact them at. This blog has a link to the city website.
If you are calling your alderman(woman) or the Mayor during the day, remember most of them work at a paying job. Don't forget, we elect part time officials, but we employ full time people to run the day to day operations of the city. I have voiced my opinion to my Aldermen, and intend to attend the meeting when this comes up for a vote. We can cut many other costs before we revert to using the county for our policing. In a recent article I read, the county polices a number of communities. All of them have the word Town in front of their name. The people who run the City of Pewaukee (elected and employed) have got to accept that we have not been a town since 1998. They seem to be acting like college Freshmen, and experimenting with every new thing that comes their way. We're way past the grace period for acting like we have no clue what it means to be a city. We have a full time City Administrator and a City Attorney. The Bach settlement was chump change compared to what we compensate them . What kind of leadership have we hired to guide us towards a sucessful future? Those positions may be two that should be considered when budget cuts are being sought.

Tuesday, September 01 2009 @ 09:15 AM CDT Since the police department appears to be on a full-front PR offensive, I
agree-- contact your alderman, and let them know that the police department doesn't speak for the people. Let's hear from both the village and the sherriff on what better options are available to more efficiently police the city. Then our elected officials can make a decision.

Tuesday, September 01 2009 @ 11:03 AM CDT EVERYBODY! Contact your AlderPERSON (you're welcome, Cheri) and let them know you're full committed to playing their game! What game? How about a little game called "Scare Tactic".
You see, obviously the City is hurting for money. So instead of just raising taxes and hearing people complain that "its tough economic times, you can't raise taxes - that's Un-American and Un-Pewaukeean", the Common Council has threatened to knee-jerk. "Well, if we don't raise taxes, we're going to have to eliminate the Police Department", they say. So then we say "Noooo, don't eliminate the Police Department, raise taxes if you need to". And then the Common Council laughs quietly on the inside because they got to hear the words come out of the constituents' mouths. This is a very similar game to when a woman asks if she "looks fat in these jeans". You know she does, but you play the game anyway. So yes, taxes probably need to be raised. It would just have been easier to have done it the Man's way (direct, to the point by saying "we need to raise taxes") instead of the Woman's / Common Council way (indirectly, playing games by saying "sigh, I guess we'll have to eliminate the police department, snowplowing, etc if we don't get some money..."). Sincerely, Milton Bradley

Tuesday, September 01 2009 @ 02:27 PM CDT I am glad to see people are finally looking at where the real problems lie. That would be directly at the top. The Administrator meddles in everyday trivial things that department heads could and should handle on their own, but when it comes to balancing the budget, or figuring out that we aren't going to have enough money to accomplish what needs to be done, then suddenly everyone's shorts are in a bundle and they start talking about eliminating entire departments. And lets not start small, let's jeopardize our public safety. I agree that we could save a lot more by eliminating all those ridiculous studies and frivolous attempts at changing the law.

Tuesday, September 01 2009 @ 10:08 PM CDT I am not quite sure why the common counsil has the ultimate say in what happens to the PD considering they are the reason that the city has gotten to this point. Decisions of this nature should be voted upon by the PEOPLE of the City of Pewaukee not seven people who do not have the best interests of the residents in mind!

Wednesday, September 02 2009 @ 10:19 AM CDT Whether the people make the choice for better, more efficient police
services or the council does, it needs to be done.
